Saina Nehwal became the only Indian female player and the second Indian badminton player after Prakash Padukone to achieve this feat. She has represented India in the Olympics three times and has won a bronze medal in her second appearance.

She has studied at the National Institute of Rural Development school Rajendra Nagar in Hyderabad. She completed her higher grade studies in St. Ann’s college for women in Hyderabad. She has studied up to 12th grade.
She is the first Indian player who won the Asian Satellite Badminton Championship twice. She also won a 4 star Philippines tournament in the year 2006. In 2008, she became the first woman to reach the quarter-finals at the Olympic games. She became the first Indian woman to reach the semi-finals of the All England Super series in the year 2010. In 2015, she became the first Indian badminton player to reach the finals of the All England Open Badminton Championships. She is the first Asian woman to win the Asian badminton medal at the Asian Games in the year 2018.

In the year 2006, Saina Nehwal became the youngest Asian to win a 4-star tournament. She is the first Indian player to win a Super Series title. In the 2014 Uber Cup, she captained the Indian team and helped India to win the bronze medal. She is the first Indian woman who won two gold medals in Commonwealth Games. In 2016, the Indian Government conferred the Padma Bhushan on her. She was ranked 18 on the list of the most charitable athletes across the world.
