Alka Yagnik is one of the most renowned Indian playback singer. She was born on 20 March 1966 in a Gujarati family in Kolkata, West Bengal.

At the age of six, Alka Yagnik began singing bhajans. She had sung her first song for the film “Payal Ki jhankar” in the year 1980. This was followed by her second song “Mere Angane Mein”. She has sung songs in more than twenty languages including Bengali, Assamese, Gujarati, Malayalam, Punjabi, Tamil, Marathi, and Telugu. She has also performed many live concerts across the world.
Once in an interview, she said that she used to record five songs daily during her time. Besides this, she has also performed shows with Kalyani-Anandji and Laxmikant-Pyarelal. She has also sung several devotional songs and Hanuman Chalisa.
Alka Yagnik’s song “ek do teen” from the film Tezaab won the first out of seven Filmfare awards for the best female playback singer. In1993, her song collaboration “Choli me Peeche Kay hai” with Ila Arun won the second Filmfare award. Her song “Chamma Chamma” from the film “China Gate” was featured in “Hindi sad Diamonds” from the soundtrack of the movie Moulin Rouge! In 2012,
she sang a song with Sonu Nigam “Shiksha ka suraj” as a part of the National Literacy mission. Her song “Taal se Taal” was known to be the best song of the century. Not only this, her song “choli ke peeche” was voted as the hottest song of the century. She shares the title for the greatest number of Filmfare awards. After Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhonsle, she is the third topmost playback singer.
