Career
| Debut | • Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank started his career as a teacher at the Saraswati Shishu mandir. As a member of the Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly from the Karna Prayag constituency in 1991, he was first elected to public office in undivided Uttar Pradesh as well as lost five times. He was re-elected from the same seat in 1993 and 1996. In 1997, he was appointed minister of northern development. He was also the chief minister of Uttarakhand from 2009 to 2011 and served as a member of the 117th Session of the Lok sabha as well as chairman of the assurance committee. He is the representative of Haridwar constituency in the Lok sabha. • Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank was also a member of the legislative assembly as well as Uttarakhand for five consecutive terms from 1991 to 2012. In 1991, he was first elected to the Karna Prayag ward and served three consecutive terms. In 2014, He resigned from doiwala and was elected to the Haridwar Lok sabha. On 30 May 2019, he was sworn in as the minister of human resource development in the second Modi government. After the renaming of the ministry in July 2020, he took over as education minister. |
