Career
Rajput started his career as an actor with daily soaps Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil and Pavitra Rishta. He made his acting debut in Bollywood with Kai Po Che. He then starred in Shuddh Desi Romance, PK, Detective Byomkesh Bakshy, M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, Raabta, Kedarnath, Sonchiraiya, Drive and Chhichhore. His last film was Dil Bechara, a remake of the english film Fault in Our Stars.
Achievements
In 2010 and 2011, the actor won the Indian Television Academy Award for Most Popular Actor (Male), Big Star Entertainment Award for Best Television Actor (Male), Gold Award for Best Actor in a Lead Role, and FICCI Frames Excellence Honour for Best TV Actor (Male) for Pavitra Rishta. He received the Producers Guild Film Award and Screen Award for Best Male Debut in 2014 for Kai Po Che. In 2016 and 2017, he won the Screen Award for Best Actor (Critics) and the Best Actor award at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne for M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story.

Favourite Things
Astronomy and Astrophysics were Rajput’s favourites. He loved to observe the rings of Saturn with his Meade LX-600 telescope. He was a fan of Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan.
Final Words
Rajput and Rhea Chakraborty moved in together in December, 2019. He committed suicide by hanging himself on 14th June, 2020, six days after Rhea moved out.
